This site is run by Michael Ashcroft Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 13280239). Registered office: c/o Demsa Accounts, 565 Green Lanes, London N8 0RL. For anything in this policy, email privacy@michaelashcroft.com.
This policy covers this website. The course platform, the checkout and the email service each have their own policies, linked below.
Hosting. The site is served by Netlify. Like any host, Netlify keeps standard server logs, which include your IP address, browser type and the pages requested. These are used for security and to keep the site running. We do not use them to identify you.
Analytics. We use Fathom Analytics to count visits. Fathom does not use cookies and does not store personal data. We can see how many people visited a page, roughly where in the world they were, and which site sent them. We cannot see who you are. We also record when someone clicks a "buy" button, as a count, not tied to a person.
Cookies. This site sets no cookies of its own.
Embedded content. Some essays embed posts from X (formerly Twitter) or videos from YouTube. When a page with an embed loads, your browser fetches it directly from that company, and they may set their own cookies. Their policies apply: X, YouTube.
If you enter your email address in a subscribe box, it is stored by Kit, the service we use to send emails. We use it to send you the writing you asked for, and occasionally to tell you about courses. Every email has an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing removes you from the list; you can also email us and we will delete your address entirely.
Checkout is handled by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as the merchant of record. They collect your payment details and billing address; we never see your card number. We receive your name and email address so that we can give you access to what you bought, and we keep a record of the purchase for our accounts, as the law requires.
Course access is provided through Mighty Networks, where you create an account under their terms.
If you write to us, we keep the email so that we can reply and remember what was said. We do not add you to any list because you emailed.
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to tell you what personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, stop using it, or give you a copy to take elsewhere. Email the address above and we will reply within a month. There is no charge.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
This site is not aimed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you think a child has given us their details, email us and we will delete them.
If this policy changes, the date at the top will change with it.
